Bed bug bites and how to tell them apart
Bite patterns vary from person to person. Some people show nothing. Others get itchy welts in a line. Bites alone are a poor diagnosis — look for insects, cast skins and faecal spots on the mattress.
Typical pattern
Bed bug bites often appear on skin that was exposed in bed: arms, shoulders, neck. They may be in a small row. They are not a reliable ID on their own.
Compared with fleas and mosquitoes
Flea bites often cluster around ankles. Mosquito bites are usually isolated and appear after time outdoors. Flea dirt and pet itching point away from bed bugs.
Physical evidence
Look along the mattress piping, behind the headboard and in screw holes. Dark spots, pale skins and live insects are the confirmation.

A technician can still inspect. Do not throw away the bed until someone has checked the frame and nearby furniture.
