Bed bugs in hotels: prevention and response
Guests bring bed bugs in luggage. A single untreated room can seed the floor. A written response — inspect, isolate, treat, reinspect — protects the brand better than a quiet linen change.
Prevention
Train housekeeping to check mattress piping and headboards. Keep luggage racks off beds. Inspect rooms after a complaint on the same day.
Isolation
Do not shuffle furniture between rooms. Take the affected room and adjoining rooms out of sale until cleared.
Treatment
A professional visit with preparation beats a consumer spray. Follow-up inspection is part of the job, not an extra.
Records
Keep room numbers, dates and contractor reports. That file is what you show an environmental health officer if asked.
