Signs of mice in your property

House mice leave small droppings, a stale smell and fine gnawing. Because they breed quickly, waiting a few weeks can turn a single sighting into a kitchen-wide problem.

Droppings and smell

Mouse droppings are 3–7 mm, pointed and often scattered along a worktop edge or in a cupboard. A persistent musky smell in a closed cupboard is another clue.

Damage

They chew packaging, loft insulation and sometimes electrical sheathing. Look for shredded paper or fabric used as nest material.

Sounds

Light scurrying in ceilings at night is typical. Mice are more likely than rats to be heard in occupied rooms because they live closer to food.

Next step

Seal obvious holes after treatment, not before you know where they travel. A survey maps those runs first.
